A casual reading of any game topic in the manosphere will reveal that a principal foundation of sexual attraction is the alpha/beta dichotomy. I have had had dealings with men who actually understand the biology of pack animal social dynamics and they have indicated to me that game practitioners use alpha and beta in a somewhat haphazard way. As a man who desires scientific rigor in the study of human sociosexual dynamics I find any imprecise use of terminology problematic. I’m not going to deal with alpha and beta as they exist in nature but the true meaning these words designate when used in a game context.

In game alpha and beta exist as a shorthand way to express positive and negative attributes of behavior. Alpha behavior indicates high status which is the primary sexual attractor to women while beta behavior indicates low status which is sexually repulsive to women. This is easy enough to understand. Problems arise when men project too much on what it means to be “alpha”. The term is loaded with a metric ton of baggage which can be crippling to men’s understanding of what really attracts women. Yes strutting around like a “cartoon alpha” silverback gorilla can get you laid with the lower sort of woman but it can also shut you off from access to the more discerning type.

All women (and the discerning type especially) maintain mechanisms for screening out low status men so they can focus their energy on high status men. These are commonly called “shit tests” though I prefer to call them manhood tests and I will get to why in a moment. The underlying principle of the shit test is to throw some sort of roadblock for betas to stumble over which an alpha would easily vault. This is why we call them shit tests. A woman gives you shit; what do you do about it? But you must remember that these tests are a trick. This is why I like to call them manhood tests. Think about it like prison. Suppose you are a con and another con asks you to get him something. Do you do it? If you do what he says you mark yourself as a bitch and you lay the groundwork for getting your manhood taken from you for real. This is why prison is such a great example. The test is for a sign of weakness. A weak man does what he is told. Even our language admits this. If you are getting pushed around it is common to say you have been “bent over”. Make no mistake sex is all about power.

I’ll give an embarrassing anecdote from my stupid youth. When my husband and I were around the one month mark, we got in a stupid fight in our apartment. I cried, yelled, stormed out, and slammed the door. Hard.

And I waited for him to do what every single other person had ever done when I threw a fit like that. Come running after me- look for me- call me to see if I was all right…

so I waited.

And waited.

And waited.

Finally after two hours. i got tired of walking around the park in a huff and went back home. He was on the computer.

I told him, “Um, didn’t you see me crying! You’re supposed to run after me! The guy is supposed to do that!!”

He said, “That is stupid. I am not running after you. Look what you did to the door. If the landlord notices, you are paying for it. Don’t be reckless again.”

“Um. Ok.”

The shit test basically asks. Can you stand up to me? If the man fails, he is communicating to the woman that since he cannot even stand up to her, it is probably the case he will not be up to the task of protecting her and her children. This is probably why some women have such a visceral reaction to very beta men. They are communicating- “Sorry, cannot protect you or your children. I am WEAK.”
Our instincts would be to not mate with those men and avoid them at all costs.

I could not explain it better. Women are testing your manhood.

The key I find is not to think of alpha in terms of physical dominance but social dominance. All women know they are inferior to men subconsciously. They may not admit this in their words but they do in their actions. Alpha behavior (or MAN behavior) demonstrates you are high status by refusing to bite on the beta bait she tosses before you. It is not about being some kind of swaggering shit talking coke dealer. It is about not getting ruffled by inferiors. Think about it as if you were in high school. If you were the captain of the football team would it really get under your skin if some nerd called you a pussy? No you would laugh it off…maybe even find it endearing. The only problem is male/female social dynamics are not as physically obvious as the nerd and the football player. So women have to find out if you are a jock or a nerd on the inside because choosing the weak nerd beta boy could get her and her children killed in a state of nature. The biological imperatives of hunter gatherer days still apply. A man who lets a woman get under his skin and control his behavior is worthless to the survival of her and her children. How could a woman have anything but contempt for a man she can control?

Alpha/beta is really man/boy. A man handles his own shit (and certainly any shit a woman throws at him). A boy takes shit from anyone. The test of manhood is the test of self mastery. Is somebody else the master or are you the master? Inquiring women want to know. This is why you shouldn’t feel bitter towards women who give “manhood” tests. Shouldn’t she want a man? Shouldn’t you be a man? 90% of passing “shit” tests (and by extension game itself) is just being a man. Be a man. Be better. Be excellent. Do all this and the women will be an afterthought.
